English¶

Language is a tool of communication, and should not be the obstacle of learning other knowledges.

As Ryan started learning to speak, we created a mixed but clearly seperated Chinese and English atomosphere.

Grandparents and mom talked with Ryan in Chinese,
while dad would talk with him in English and read English books for him.

Is Speaking English at Home Enough?

For most families: no.

Why?

Learning a language is not just about speaking. In order to read and write proper languages, we all need a systematic learning plan. And that is why we still need to learn our own language at school.

So What's the Plan?

While some schools teach in English, it still won't be enough.

Also most of the schools only offer English courses.

How we deal with the problem?

First, we need to make sure Ryan attends systematically designed courses.
Then, we read books with him, help him read by himself and provide him with books he is insterested in.

Reading is an efficient way to absorb knowledges.

EF has a lot of activities to attend. When we lived in Shenzhen, Ryan loved these.

EF provides textbooks with very high quality. It's just like reading fun stories.

Ryan loves reading them.
